1984年12月19日，中英两国政府在北京正式签署《中华人民共和国政府和大不列颠及北爱尔兰联合王国政府关于香港问题的联合声明》，中国政府声明决定于1997年7月1日对香港恢复行使主权。
《联合声明》的签署，圆满解决了中国恢复对香港行使主权的问题，也为香港长期繁荣稳定提供了坚实基础。
On December 19, 1984, the Chinese and British governments officially signed the "Joint Declaration of the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on the Issue of Hong Kong" in Beijing. The Chinese government declared that it would resume the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong on July 1, 1997.
